Teeth – Hard As A Rock
| Did You Know the tooth is the hardest substance in your body? Human beings have two sets of teeth. The first set of teeth called baby teeth come in a person’s mouth at about six months of age, then fall out about 6 to 7 years later, replaced with permanent teeth. Teeth let you chew food, and form words. The tooth is made up of a hard enamel called calcium phosphate, dentine, and pulp. The part of the tooth that we see is the enamel. The root below the enamel attaches the tooth to the gum. The enamel is formed under the gumline when we are babies. It is the hardest substance in the body and does not have any nerves in it. So, if the enamel gets chipped, it cannot replace itself. Milk is good for teeth because it contains calcium. Between the enamel (crown) and the root where the blood vessels are, is the dentine. The dentine protects the nerves and blood vessels, it is a whitish beige color. If there is a problem with the dentine, you will feel hot and cold, and possibly pain. The pulp of the tooth is where all the blood vessels and nerves are. If the pulp gets infected an abscess (puss inside the gum) will form and you will have to go to the dentist and get a root canal. A root canal is when the infected pulp is removed and the inside of the tooth is cleaned. If an infected pulp is not treated, it causes pain, and you can lose your tooth. If you take care of your teeth, you may not have problems like cavities (decay), plague (a clear bacteria) or pain. You can take care of your teeth by brushing at least twice a day with a toothpaste that has fluoride in it. You don’t need to cover the toothbrush with a row of toothpaste, squeezing out the size of a pea should do the trick. Brushing the front, sides, and back of the teeth. Flossing the teeth with dental floss helps too. Using the string to go between your teeth will help get out food particles. You can buy an antibacterial mouth rinse at the store to gargle with. Be sure to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables (“an apple a day helps keep the doctor away”, carrots, celery) and drink lots of water instead of pop/soda. The sugar affects your teeth. So take care of the hardest substance in your body. You will feel better, and be healthy. You will get plenty of compliments on your smile, when you “say cheese”. Taken from WebMd |

Learn To Play - Help Yourself
| Learning how to play a musical instrument helps you to focus your attention. Playing the piano for example, you have to hear the sound of the key you are pushing, you have to know the key you are pushing is “A”. This means you have to focus your attention and concentrate. Everytime you hit the key you know the sound is for the “A” note. If you can focus your attention and concentrate enough to learn a musical note, you can concentrate on your school history assignment or any subject, and “get it”. Learning how to play the piano means memorizing the musical scale – All Cows Eat Grass (A, C, E, G). This tells you if you can memorize the sounds of the musical notes, you can memorize other things like spelling words, or a presentation you are giving on your job. Learning how to play the piano or any instrument requires discipline. In order to learn to play, you have to be still/quiet and practice for an hour, or two. If you can set aside one hour to play an instrument then you can set aside an hour to do other things, like clean your room, write a paper, or cut the grass. Not only is the sound of music relaxing/soothing to the body, but when you play, you link sounds together. And voila, you have created music, a song. The sounds you play together in a pattern belong to no one else but you. Playing an instrument teaches you how to be patient. You have to keep practicing in order to learn how to play the instrument correctly, which means you have to be patient, while you are practicing. Playing an instrument will give you the tools you need to get along with others. Most people who play an instrument want to play their instrument with others. In a band you have to learn the moment to play your instrument, to make it sound good when someone else is playing theirs (when to come in). This requires patience, so you do not get upset. If another person tells you to play your instrument differently to make the song sound better, than you have to be willing to change the way you do things. If you play music you may be able to read music, which requires counting notes. This can improve your math. Playing a horn like a saxophone or trumpet means you have to blow air to make the sound come out. This helps your breathing, your respiratory system. You have to control the amount of air you breathe into the horn, either a lot or a little. Being able to control your respiratory system, may help you with other things, like swimming. Playing an instrument can be a great thing. It CAN help you. You have to think to use it. You can keep your mental function sharp well into your old age. Everyone enjoys listening to music which means it can increase your social life, making you popular. It makes you feel GOOD. It can give you confidence. You have accomplished something, and it is a wonderful feeling. So pick up an instrument and learn to play it, today. |

Be On Time
| Did you know you can come VERY sick if you don’t go to the bathroom often? YES, it true. Your blood flows through the kidneys several times a day, to be filtered. Everytime you eat or drink something, it gets in your blood and the kidneys go to work. The things that the body cannot use, are sent down tubes in the pelvis which come out of you, as urine. This is toxic to the body, and if held in can make you sick. The food you eat and drink goes into the stomach and passes through the intestines connected to the stomach. The things the body needs are absorbed in the intestines. The stuff the body does not need passes into the large intestine, mixes with water, and turns brown (like dead plants do). It is waste that is removed from the body. The brown waste (bowel) is toxic like the urine is, and if it sits in your body it can make you sick. The intestines are long tubes that wrap around, going up and down like a roller coaster. When food goes through the intestine, it may not be able to be pushed up the “hill” to the high part of the roller coaster. This means it may sit in the low part and rot because it has nothing to push it along. This is why it is important to eat foods with fiber and roughage like apples, oatmeal, nuts, and seeds. There are diseases of the bladder (where the urine is) and the intestine you can get:

Water – Its Not All Wet
Did You Know that over 50% of your body is made up of water? That’s right. Who knew.
Drinking water is important for us to do everyday.
Every organ of the body needs water to survive. Water is needed to help keep
our bodies cool. When you have been moving around a lot, running, jumping, etc your
body can get overheated, your tongue gets dry, you may sweat. This is a sign
that you are thirsty and should drink water. Yes, you can grab a pop, but water
does not have any calories. You won’t be thirsty a few minutes later.
You lose water when you urinate, and sweat, so putting it
back is key. If you have pain, constipation, your muscles hurt, or your urine
has a strong order with a yellowish color, you need to drink water. Water is
used by the blood to give oxygen to your cells. It helps the skin stay clear
and young looking. Helps the kidneys filter the blood. It helps the liver get
rid of toxins in the body. It also helps the teeth stay strong and healthy.
If you can’t drink the water from the faucet, buy a water
filter, or bottled water. Flavored water is good, but be careful that there is
not more “flavor” than water. So drink up. At least 8 glasses of water a
day. You will feel better and you will
see the results in your body.

Poetry - Tied To Music
Did You Know that poetry is similar to music?
Poetry is words that are spoken. Some words have a rhythm to
them as they are being spoken. Some words tell a story when spoken together.
Music is sound that has words added to it. Some lyrics rhyme, some don’t. Both
poetry and music can calm you, relax you. When you are relaxed your heart beats
slower. Some people are known to think better. Read a book of poems. You may
find that you enjoy the quiet time. You may even find that you want to be a writer
of words. Poetry is a wonderful thing. Like music, it is a universal language.
